Autism Disorder Characteristics

Children with Autism Disorder tend to have three areas of impairment: social, communicative and behavioral.
These impairments may include:
Social Impairments:
*Difficulty responding to his/her name
*Lack of eye contact
*Resistance to physical touch
Communicative Impairments:
*Difficulty expressing feelings and emotions and has trouble interpreting others feelings
*Delayed speech
*Difficulty starting a conversation and continuing a conversation
Behavioral Impairments:
*Resistant to change
*Prefers patterns or routines and gets upset when changed
*Unusually sensitive to light and touch
